The Brief

Appeal to a younger wrist, and work on any of them.

I chose a classic three-hand movement — simple and versatile — so that proportion, case detailing and finish carry the personality instead of a busy dial. Regular reviews with Movado’s designers and executives shaped each round of refinement.

Research & Ideation

Moodboard, then six configurations on paper.

A moodboard of consumer electronics, chronographs and street style set the younger, unisex tone. From there I sketched six case, lug and crown configurations.

Concepts

Three directions went to review.

Same case architecture, three different dial languages and colour stories. Concept 02 became the final.

Concept 01 render
Concept 01 — White case, violet gradient bezel; the radar-ring dial at its most graphic.
Concept 02 render
Concept 02 — Matte black case, red-to-pink bezel, repeating HUGO-monogram dial texture.
Concept 03 render
Concept 03 — Navy case, rose-gold bezel, a quieter dual-ring dial.

CAD Development

Back into SolidWorks, in a colourless finish.

Working in a light colorway kept the eye on form rather than finish — case proportion, lug transition, strap thickness and the way the band curls off the lugs were all judged off these passes before any colour was locked.

3D linework models

Ghosted linework, so the internals could be checked against the spec without the finish getting in the way.

Final Design

Black case, colour-blocked red bezel.

A radar-ring dial, applied indices, date at three, and a HUGO-patterned strap underside. Seventeen parts, live from the SolidWorks assembly — scroll to take it apart.

Dial and case, stripped

Concentric radar arcs cut into a black disc with the indices picked out in red, then dropped back into the assembled head behind the crystal. The bare case carries integrated lugs, the gasket seat, and the crystal shelf machined into the bezel wall.

CMF

Four colourways, judged at the size they’d be worn.

Drawn in Illustrator over the finished design. Each board carries the front and side at 100% and 200% alongside the case and strap specs.
